ISO 16474-2 Testing of paints - Large Xenon Test Chamber
Publish Time:2025-01-09Views:()
ISO 16474-2 ‘Colour paints and varnishes Methods of exposure to laboratory light Part 2: Xenon arc lamps’ is an important international standard, especially for aging tests using xenon arc lamps, and Sonacme 's Large Xenon Test Chamber meets the testing requirements of ISO 16474-2.
ISO 16474-2 Standard Overview
ISO 16474-2 specifies methods for exposing coating materials such as paints and varnishes to xenon arc light in the presence of moisture, with the aim of simulating the weathering effects that may occur when the materials are exposed to sunlight or sunlight filtered through window glass in the actual end-use environment. The standard applies to the assessment of the weathering properties of coating materials, including colour change, gloss change, crack production, etc.
ISO 16474-2 Requirements for Equipment
Type of light source: The test chamber shall use a xenon arc lamp as the light source, which shall be capable of simulating the spectral energy distribution of terrestrial daylight in the ultraviolet and visible regions.
Irradiance control: The chamber shall have a precise irradiance control system capable of adjusting the irradiance to the range specified in the standard according to the test requirements.
Temperature control: the test chamber should have a precise temperature control system, able to simulate the actual use of the environment in the climatic conditions, and according to the test standards set the corresponding temperature range.
Filter selection: According to the test requirements and material characteristics, select the appropriate filter to simulate different light conditions, such as daylight, daylight filtered through the glass window. The filter should be able to stably filter out unwanted spectral components.
Overview of Sonacme Technology's Large Xenon Test Chamber
Sonacme Technology's Large Xenon Test Chamber is a multi-functional test equipment, which adopts a high-power precision water-cooled xenon lamp as the light source, and is able to simulate the ultraviolet, visible and infrared radiation of sunlight, thus accelerating the aging process of the materials, so as to evaluate the durability and stability of the materials in a shorter period of time.
Parameters of Sonacme Technology Large Xenon Test Chamber
Light source: 6.5 KW water-cooled long arc xenon lamp
Filter: ATLAS original filter; can fully simulate the indoor or outdoor solar spectrum
Exposure area: 6500 cm² (one exposure 150mm × 70mm, standard sample plate 63 ~ 65 pieces)
Xenon lamp spectral wavelength: optional 300-800nm (simulation of sunlight, 300nm below the wavelength of all filtered) or 280-800nm (enhance the ultraviolet wavelength band, short-wave ultraviolet retained in part)
Irradiance adjustable range: 30W/m2 ~ 150W/m2 (full spectrum 300-400nm) or 0.3W/m2 ~ 1.5W/m2 @340nm or 0.5W/m2 ~ 2.7 W/m2 @420nm.
Lamp life: 2000 hours
Sonacme Technology's Large Xenon Test Chamber meets the requirements of ISO 16474-2 standard in terms of light source and radiation characteristics, temperature and humidity control, test parameters, etc. It is an important tool for assessing the weathering and aging stability of paints.
